February 2023, Orange CA Santiago Creek is the main tributary of the Santa Ana River in Orange County. This video soars over the Orange portion of the Santiago Creek Corridor connecting neighborhoods of West Orange and Old Towne to Orange Parks Acres and East Orange. It runs from Hart Park to Irvine Regional Park. Santiago Creek rises in the Cleveland National Forest, between Santiago Peak and Modjeska Peak, which together form the prominent Saddleback of the Santa Ana Mountains. It is one of the longest watercourses entirely within the county, about 34 miles. The creek was named by the expedition of Gaspar de Portola in 1769 in honor of St. James (San Iago). Santiago Oaks Regional Park is home to an early citrus orchard in Orange County California. Now a county park, it has picnic areas, a year-round creek, a volunteer-staffed nature center, hiking and biking trails, and early Orange county irrigation works.

This is Santiago Creek flowing over the historic dam in Santiago Oaks Regional Park. The creek is unusually high at this time due to unusual rains during the winter and spring of 2023.

The Santa Ana Watershed catches stormwater from a 2,650 square mile region and channels it into the Pacific Ocean at the City of Huntington Beach. It stretches from the peaks of the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains, through the coastal plains in Orange County all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The Santa Ana River (River), flowing over 100 miles, drains the largest coastal stream system in Southern California including parts of Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, as well as a sliver of Los Angeles County. The total length of the River and its major tributaries is about 700 miles, one of the largest River systems in California. This is The Story of The Santa Ana Watershed.
